Teaching Philosophy

"Without a dedicated guide,[students] end up as feral children of the Internet raised by the Web 2.0 wolves.” (Professor Henry Jenkins - http://tinyurl.com/yl6haum)

LIBRARIANS ARE THAT GUIDE!

I am a librarian.  In my role as a librarian I am there to aid, assist, and be a teaching partner to students, faculty, administration and parents.  Librarians are no longer the person whispering shush as she watches over the stacks of books but an active participant in the teaching and learning process.

I am a collaborator.  I work with teachers to plan, instruct and evaluate student learning.

I am a resource locator.  I will comb print and electronic material to find the needed resources of any library patron.

I am a lover of literature.  I will diligently find the right book for any person.  It is my pleasure to excite students and teachers in their quest for literature.  It is especially important to entice the reluctant reader with just the right book.  I believe reading is the single most important activity to help students reach their academic goals.

I am a teacher.  I teach students how to be information literate.  I teach educators how to integrate technology in their lessons.

"From the community to schools to colleges and on to the workplace, people are expected to be able to access, use, understand, and apply information. The shared aim is to develop people who are ready to enter the workforce as competent, ethical, and productive users of information and technology." (Grassian, Esther S. and Joan R. Kaplowitz. Information Literacy Instruction: Theory and Practice. New York, NY: Neal-Schuman Publishers, Inc. 2001.)
